Beautyrest Harmony Lux Diamond Series Mattress

Simmons Beautyrest Harmony Lux Diamond Series Plush Pillowtop Mattress

Getting quality sleep is just about the most important thing you can do for your overall health. Sleep restores the brain’s capacity for learning, making room for new memories, improving mental alertness, and increasing learning ability. The importance of sleep as it pertains to alertness cannot be stressed enough; after being awake for nineteen hours, people who were sleep-deprived were as cognitively impaired as those who were legally drunk. These are only some of the reasons why it’s so important to get restorative sleep, and the best way to do that is with a high-quality mattress.

Since 1870, Simmons has produced an impressive line of quality mattresses and was the first company to introduce the woven-wire bedspring mattress. As a result, mattresses simultaneously became more comfortable and supportive, as well as more widely affordable. Today, Simmons Beautyrest mattresses are among the country’s most trusted and best-selling mattress brands, and with their ever-evolving list of foams, gels, springs, and fabrics used, it’s easy to see why. One of their best and most environmentally friendly lines is the Harmony Lux. The Harmony Lux line comes in both the Carbon Series and the Diamond Series. In this article, we are going to focus on the Diamond Series.

The Beautyrest Harmony Lux Diamond Series consists of four mattresses that contain strong and supportive pocketed coils, as well as multiple layers of memory foam. As with many other lines, the Diamond Series boasts both Tight Top and Pillow Top mattresses. The Tight Top comes in medium and plush levels of firmness, while the Pillow top comes in medium and ultra-plush.

The following is a detailed breakdown of the various layers that are found in each Diamond mattress.

Beautyrest Harmony Lux Diamond Series Tight Top

The Harmony Lux Diamond Tight Top comes in either a medium or plush feel, and there are slight differences in the foam layers between the two. The medium is 14.75” high, while the plush sits at 15”.

Here’s what’s inside:

  1. Seaqual Sustainable Fabric Cover: A cover made using unique fabric technology that converts plastic water bottles recovered from the ocean. The resulting material is soft and durable.
  2. SurfaceTouch Gel Memory Foam: Soft comfort foam that hugs the curves of the body and moves heat away from the sleep surface.
  3. Gel Touch foam (Plush Only): A soft layer of cooling gel memory foam cushions pressure points for a soft, cradling, cloud-like feel.
  4. RightTemp Wave Foam: A proprietary polyfoam that brings pressure relief and additional cooling technology in the form of conductive carbon fibers.
  5. Firm Comfort Foam (Medium Only): A layer of firm foam supports proper body alignment and limits surface sagging and depressions.
  6. Micro Diamond Memory Foam: A high-density memory foam brings close contouring while cooling Micro Diamond Technology provides a cool sleep environment.
  7. Medium Comfort foam (Medium Only): A final layer of foam that’s firm enough that you won’t feel the innerspring coils, but soft enough that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort.
  8. Gel Touch Foam (Plush Only): Another soft layer of cooling memory foam for plush softness.
  9. T2 Pocketed Coils: A support system with a pocketed coil design. These coils move independently so you experience the most supportive comfort possible.

Beautyrest Harmoy Lux Diamond Pillow Top

The Harmony Lux Diamond Pillow Top mattresses have a plush, cradling, body-hugging feel. The Ultra Plush Pillow Top mattress is 17.5” thick, while the Medium Pillow Top is 17.25”. There are a few key differences between the Pillow Top and Tight Top mattresses. Here’s what’s inside:

  1. Seaqual Sustainable Fabric Cover: The Pillow Top boasts the same eco-friendly and durable cover as the Tight Top version.
  2. SurfaceTouch Gel Memory Foam: An identical plush and cooling top layer, as found in the Classic Top version.
  3. Gel Touch Foam (Ultra-Plush Only): The cooling, soft, plush top layer is the same as is found in the Classic Top Plush mattress.
  4. RightTemp Wave Foam: This same pressure-relieving and cooling proprietary foam is found throughout the entire Diamond Series.
  5. Plush Comfort Foam (Medium Only): The medium pillow top mattress boasts a plush comfort foam for enhanced pressure relief where you need it most.
  6. AirCool HD Memory Foam (Ultra-Plush Only): A layer of cooling and conforming memory foam designed to keep the ultra-plush mattress just as cool as other models.
  7. Dynamic Response Memory Foam (Medium Only): A firmer and more responsive foam is used in the pillow top mattress transition layer to make it easier to move and roll over throughout the night.
  8. Micro Diamond Memory Foam: The same cooling high-density foam as the Tight Top version.
  9. Gel Touch Foam (Ultra-Plush Only): Another layer of ultra-soft foam is added for a cradled sleeping experience.
  10. Medium Comfort Foam (Medium Only): The same durable, yet conforming, foam as found in the Tight Top versions.
  11. T2 Pocketed Coils: The same individually encased coils for balanced support and ultimate comfort.

So… Should I Buy It?

The Harmony Lux Diamond mattress is a perfect choice for anyone who prefers a soft, luxurious, and plush feel. Back sleepers and side sleepers will benefit the most from this mattress, while stomach sleepers should seek a firmer alternative (such as the Harmony Lux Carbon mattress). However, lightweight sleepers will likely find this mattress comfortable, regardless of their sleeping position.

Unlike most memory foam or luxuriously soft mattresses, the Harmony Lux Diamond series keeps sleepers cool with the many cooling innovations and gel foams found throughout the mattress. If you’re one who wakes up hot and sweaty during the night, this mattress will be a pleasant (and cool!) change for you.

The many layers of soft foam, along with the pocketed coil technology, means that there is little motion transfer. Couples can sleep together on this bed without worrying about waking each other up with nighttime movements.

Being extremely comfortable and luxurious with a wallet-friendly price point, this mattress is sure to satisfy the needs of most shoppers. If you’re looking for a firmer and more supportive mattress, be sure to research the Harmony Lux Carbon series.

Top Five Kids Mattresses

Most parents would agree that quality sleep is vital for children. The parents who do understand the importance of sleep also take the proper steps to ensure their child gets the ample rest they need – ie: keeping the room dark and quiet, following the same routine every night, or even using white noise to drown out potentially sleep-disturbing sounds. These are all great tactics to keep kids well-rested but what about the mattress? Kids mattresses should provide a supportive, comfortable sleep surface just like mattresses for adults. Purchasing the cheapest possible mattress or using a hand-me-down could leave your child tossing and turning on a bed that doesn’t offer enough support or just plain isn’t comfortable. The good news is there are a lot of options out there for kids’ mattresses that provide the right amount of support. You should invest in your child’s sleep. Fortunately, we have plenty of options that provide good support, are cost-effective, and will last through your kids’ childhood and then some.

Here are a couple of things to consider when shopping for a kid’s mattress.

Size

How tall is your child most likely to be when they are older? Taller children will quickly grow out of a smaller mattress. There is no need to waste money on multiple mattresses to keep up with your child’s growth. It is better and more cost-effective to invest in a larger bed with room for growth so they can continue to use it throughout their teen years.

Here are the recommended mattress sizes for kids.

  • Twin 38” by 75”. Twin mattresses are the smallest size mattress and are a great space saver. Twins are the best for shorter children.
  • Twin XL 38” by 80” (5” longer than a twin). This size is better for children who are expected to grow taller.
  • Full 54” by 75”. This size has a wider sleeping surface and is great for cuddling up for storytime. A full mattress would be a good option for a guest bedroom in the future or could even be taken with your child to college. If your child is taller than 75” you may want to consider a queen size mattress which measures 60” by 80”.

Hand Me Down Mattresses

We do not recommend giving your child a mattress that is more than 7 years old. If the mattress was not good enough for the previous owner, it is most likely not going to be a good option to nurture your child’s growth and development. Sleep is very important to a child’s health. Lack of sleep may affect your child’s weight, performance in school, mood level, and a number of other factors. Think about how you feel after a night of poor sleep. Not good…right? When buying a mattress for your child, consider the same things you would if you were buying a mattress for yourself.

Comfort Level

Include your child in the shopping experience. It can be fun to try mattresses together. If your child is too young to determine their likes and dislikes bring a sibling along to help or use your best judgment. When using your best judgment consider how your child sleeps. Do they sleep on their back, their side, their stomach, or a combination? The position your child sleeps in can help you determine what comfort level is going to be best. Here are some basic guidelines for comfort levels based on how your little one sleeps.

  • Back sleepers– If your child is a back sleeper you’re going to want a mattress that is either in the middle range of comfort (not too soft and not too hard) or on the firm side.
  • Side Sleepers-If your child is a side sleeper you going to want something that is in the middle range of comfort (not too soft and not too firm).
  • Stomach sleepers– If your child is a stomach sleeper you are going to want something more on the firm side. A softer mattress is going to make your stomach sink creating uneven spinal alignment.

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a mattress that is in the middle range of comfort. On our comfort scale, you will want to look at mattresses that have a comfort level between 4 and 6.

Now that you know what to consider when shopping for a mattress for your child here are the top 5 kids mattresses of 2019

Is that mattress “the one”? Simplify online mattress shopping

online mattress shopping

online mattress shopping
“Is this mattress as perfect as our relationship?”

Do you believe everyone has a soul mate? A perfect match just out there waiting for them? Okay, admittedly that’s a pretty lofty subject to be talking about, and the only loft we’re really interested in is the type that’s inside your mattress. But, it’s related, because we’re firm believers that there’s a perfect mattress waiting for everyone. And just like so many real-life couples these days, you can find your match online.

Finding the perfect mattress is a lot like finding the perfect relationship — there’s some give and take. In this case, it’s how much give on a mattress you can take. Choosing the best mattress, especially when you’re shopping online, is a big decision and a long lasting commitment (seeing the similarities yet?) as your mattress may be with you for 8 to 10 years. Choose the wrong mattress and you’ll be dealing with more than a few restless nights, painful mornings, and a host of negative side effects that come with not getting great rest.

But choose the right mattress and you could be looking at something that very few people ever see: a good nights sleep.

So how do you identify a great mattress? And more importantly, when you’re online mattress shopping, how do you know that it’s the right one for you? It’s not as hard you might think, and Sleep City has made it a downright comfortable process.

It’s all thanks to their Comfort Levels system.

Sleep City has identified about five different levels of comfort that are common for most mattresses, and they’ve divided those five levels of comfort into ratings from 10 to 100. So what’s the secret to the system? You can read a little more in-depth descriptions of the different ratings here.

Beautyrest Black Mariela Luxury Firm Mattress - For those seeking a firm mattress
Beautyrest Black Mariela Luxury Firm Mattress – For those seeking a firm mattress

10: Most Firm Mattress – Have you ever slept on a cement floor? That’s about what this mattress is like. No flex and give; just an incredibly firm surface. There aren’t many mattresses that fit this level, but it gives you a good place to start comparing.

Beautyrest Black Sonya Luxury Firm Pillow Top Mattress - For those who want a happy medium
Beautyrest Black Sonya Luxury Firm Pillow Top Mattress – For those who want a happy medium

20 to 40: Very Firm Mattress – We’ve moved from a cement floor to a wood floor with carpeting. This is incredibly firm, without a lot of give. But for some people, it’s the best mattress for a comfortable night’s sleep. (The Beautyrest Black Mariela Luxury Firm is a good example of a mattress in this category)

40 to 60: Mid-Range Mattress – The perfect compromise between too hard and too soft, this level of comfort might be your best mattress choice if you’re of two minds about a good nights sleep (or if you and your partner can’t completely agree on two different levels). (The Beautyrest Black Sonya Luxury Firm Pillow Top falls right in the middle of firm and soft.)

Beautyrest Black Tatiana Ultra Plush Pillow Top - For those who like soft
Beautyrest Black Tatiana Ultra Plush Pillow Top – For those who like soft

70 to 90: Soft Mattress – If your answer to the question, “How soft is too soft?” is, “What do you mean there’s a too soft?” then this might be the category for you. This is all about fluff and plush, letting you sink into your mattress on  your way to dream land. (Try the Beautyrest Black Tatiana Plush Pillow Top for a mattress with a lot of give.)

100: Super Soft Mattress – Sleeping on a cloud is generally a  figure of speech meaning comfort, but for this type of mattress it might almost be literal. These mattresses have very very little resistance. There’s not a lot of mattresses at this rating, but it’s a good place for comparison.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to start shopping for your perfect mattress — we know it’s out there waiting for you.

A Black mattress on Black Friday – finding deals for yourself

black mattress shopping on black friday

black mattress shopping on black friday
Shoppers comes out in force on Black Friday for amazing deals.

Lots of people approach Black Friday shopping armed with their gift lists for family and friends. But it’s also one of the best times of the year to shop for those things you’ve been thinking about for yourself – like a new Black mattress, the luxury line by Simmons.

There’s a reason retailers discount nearly everything on Black Friday, and it’s not because they think you’re going to buy your husband athletic socks for Christmas. (Although if that’s your go-to gift, good for you. Practical items are much less likely to end up in the “re-gift” or return pile.) According to some statistics, as many as 90% of Black Friday shoppers are looking to buy for themselves. Perhaps not exclusively, but they’ll likely take home at least one item for their own use.

And this Black Friday will be no different. Since 2007, retailers have begun holiday discounting earlier, around the first week in November, but they still frequently reserve the special deals for the day after Thanksgiving when traffic will be heaviest. If you’ve been considering a new washer and dryer, the latest smartphone or tablet device, or a new Black mattress, Black Friday may just be your lucky day.

Simmons Beautyrest Black Mattress
Give yourself the gift of a Black mattress.

Your mattress is an important part of your daily life, and because personal preference plays such a large role in choosing a mattress, it’s unlikely you’ll get one as a gift. If you’re ready to treat yourself to a special holiday gift, or if you and your significant other want to limit the stress of finding gifts for each other, consider a Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress.

Simmons Beautyrest models are known for their durability and comfort. The Black mattresses are a top-of-the-line series that feature excellent motion separation, GelTouch foam and AirCool memory foam to relieve pressure and keep you cool throughout the night, and a 20-year warranty so you can sleep peacefully for the next two decades.

Black Friday shopping is nearly as big a part of the holiday tradition as a turkey dinner or a decorated tree. Enjoy the deals, and take advantage of the opportunity to score yourself something you really want at a price you won’t see any other time of year. Your Black mattress awaits!

Top 5 Guest Bedroom Mattresses

Offer your guests a comfortable place to sleep.
Offer your guests a comfortable place to sleep.

Are you hosting guests in the near future? Whether its family during the holidays or friends stopping by, having a comfortable mattress in your guest bedroom is sure to impress and make your guests feel happy and well-rested. When setting up a guest bedroom the mattress is often overlooked. Ever stay at someone’s home and the mattress was hard as a rock, overly soft, or lumpy? We’ve all been there. Sleeping in an unfamiliar place can make it difficult to sleep. Sleeping on an uncomfortable, non-supportive mattress makes sleeping well even worse.

While there are a lot of factors to take into account (the space you have set aside for your guests, your budget, how frequently you expect to host, who you expect to host, even where you live), we’ve gone with some recommendations that should suit nearly any home and multiple budgets.

Guest Bedroom Mattresses

This mattress has a medium feel that is not too soft and not too firm so it will work for almost every sleep preference. The Response coil system provides balanced, deep down support and motion separation, which may be especially important if you’ve got the cousins sharing a bed, or your sister and her three-year-old in the same room. Family time is so much better when everyone gets enough sleep. No-flip design also means less work for you. And guest bedroom mattresses should require minimal work. If you know your guests enjoy a firmer mattress go for the Sealy Response Essentials Faithful Firm Mattress for the same price.

Sealy Posturepedic Response Performance Attendance Cushion Firm Mattress

With the additional support and a 10-year warranty, this mattress is going to be a good choice if you host guests frequently. Even with the additional performance materials, this mattress is still budget-friendly ($734 for a full set, $744 for a queen set). With the money you save, you can treat your guests to a nice dinner. Want a little softer comfort? Go with the Sealy Posturepedic Response Performance Attendance Plush Mattress for the same price.

Simmons Beautyrest BR800 Medium Pillowtop Mattress

3. Simmons Beautyrest BR800 Medium Pillowtop Mattress – This mattress offers initial soft comfort from the pillowtop with an overall medium feel that is going to work for a wide range of individuals. When in doubt go with medium comfort. The price point for this mattress is a little higher with the addition of more comfort and durability from high-density foams and Simmons high performance pocketed coil system ($990 for a full set, $1015 for a queen set). Sleeping hot is one of the most common sleep issues. This mattress features a cooling cover and breathable, pressure-relieving gel memory foams so, your guests can sleep through the night without interruptions.

Sealy Posturepedic Response Premium Onassis Cushion Firm Mattress
Best bang for your buck.

4. Sealy Posturepedic Response Premium Onassis Cushion Firm Mattress – The Onassis Cushion Firm Mattress ($1218 for a full set, $1218 for a queen set) is a top of the line choice in the Sealy Response collection. Sealy’s most advanced Response Pro HD Encased Coil System, Posturepedic Technology, and breathable high-density foams give this mattress a firm yet comfortable deep cushioning feel that is ideal for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and side sleepers who like a firmer feel. The substantial number of coils and high-density foams makes this mattress very durable and is also backed by a 10-year warranty. The price is higher but, if you host guests frequently or run a vacation rental home such as Airbnb or Vrbo, then this mattress will last and meet your guests sleep needs. For vacation rental homeowners, you may even get some good reviews out of it.

A few other tips for your guest bedroom search:

Consider Your Space

If you have the space, a full size or queen size bed is your best option. Twin size is great for singles or children, but it’s not very practical for couples. King size beds are a great luxury if you’ve got a large enough guest room, but your guests will likely also appreciate a dresser and bedside table. Be sure all the furniture fits before you commit to a king.

Stick with Traditional Innerspring

While an all-foam mattress might sound like the peak of comfort, not everyone loves the way a slab of memory foam sleeps. Same goes for waterbeds and air beds. Your best bet is to stay traditional. Most of the U.S. population sleeps on an innerspring mattress.

When in Doubt, Go with Firm to Medium Comfort

Bed comfort levels are very personal. Some people would be happy sleeping on a mattress with less give than a concrete sidewalk, while others wouldn’t be able to get comfortable in a ten-foot pile of fluffy rainbows and angel wings. However, while you can add comfort layers to a firm foundation, it’s really hard to add solidity to an overly plush mattress.

Clean and Protect

If you don’t clean your mattress now is a good time to start. Start by checking your mattress tag (or checking with the retailer or manufacturer) to see if there are any special cleaning instructions. Otherwise, you’re probably safe thoroughly vacuuming both sides, spot treating any stains, and letting it air out a while (if it’s a nice, dry day outside). For more comprehensive cleaning instructions checkout our most popular cleaning blogs:

Don’t Forget the Pillows!

The bed is important, but its perfection can be ruined by bad pillows. It is best to get pillows that are good for all types of sleepers. You don’t want to get pillows that are too tall or too short. When in doubt go with medium comfort. Check out our large selection of pillows here.

Order at Least 3-4 Weeks Prior to Your Guest’s Arrival

When ordering online you have to account for shipping and delivery times. How the delivery process works is we order all of our mattresses factory direct from the plant closest to you. It generally takes the plant about 7-10 days to make the mattress and ship it to a local delivery agent in your area. Once the agent receives your mattress they call you to set up delivery. It can take the delivery agent anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks to deliver to you depending on where you are located, how often they service your area, how busy they are, etc. but the entire process takes about 2-3 weeks. Holidays can cause extra days. Plan ahead so, you don’t have to pull out the blow-up mattress for your guests.

Enjoy your shopping, and let us know if you have any questions about which guest bedroom mattress might be best for you. Sleepcity.com is always having sales so, definitely call us at 877-246-7533 for final prices.

The History of Sleep – from bear skins to Beautyrest

how the simmons beautyrest mattress came to be

Ever wondered what kind of technological advancements it took to develop the Simmons Beautyrest? No? Well, then, maybe you’ve wondered what kind of beds notable historical figures like Columbus, King Tut, or Bonnie and Clyde slept on? Still no? Okay, maybe you just need a few more random facts for trivia night.

Just in case you were wondering, cavemen didn’t have the luxury of memory foam and gel layers like you’ll find in the Simmons Beautyrest TruEnergy or the Beautyrest Black mattress collection. No, those poor souls finally got around to elevating their beds off the ground (where the drafts blew and the critters collected) around 10,000 B.C.

Once humans learned how to domesticate animals and grow crops, they settled down into structured societies, and beds improved drastically. In fact, the wealthier and more important the individual, the more elaborate his or her bed. When William Shakespeare died, he bequeathed his “second best bed” to his wife. While we modern folk interpret that as a slap in the face, at the time, the best bed was typically reserved for guests, so he was thoughtfully ensuring his wife had a comfortable place to sleep. In any case, it was worthy of mention in a will.

Enjoy this timeline of mattress history, and may it bring you some points on trivia night.

Empty Nest? Upgrade your guest bedroom mattress!

Guest Bedroom

Give your guests an upgrade. And sheets.

When your kids have all flown the coop, one of the best things is all the extra space they leave behind. While you could hop the trend and do something really funky with the extra room, like create a yoga or art studio, why not go the classic route and finally create the room for visitors, complete with an upgraded guest bedroom mattress, you’ve been wishing you could offer your house guests all these years?

Out of everything you brainstorm—the artwork, the soaps in the bathroom, the magazines by the side of the bed—the most important thing you should consider before anything else is the guest bedroom mattress. Guest bedrooms are notorious for having mattresses so bad that guests’ backs will hurt weeks after they’ve left. Don’t let this happen to you. Nobody wants to be known as person with the guest bedroom mattress from Hell.

But the good news? You don’t have to break the bank if you want to put something better just any old mattress in your newly designed guest bedroom. There are quite a few mattress options available that are universally appealing in function AND price.

Here are a couple of models that are perfect for the guest bedroom mattress.

Mazatlan guest bedroom mattress
A high-quality, low-cost option for your guest bedroom mattress.

Firmness and affordability unite in the Mazatlan

What’s great about the Mazatlan mattress from Simmons is that it’s a Beautysleep. That means it has the individually wrapped coils this mattress style is known for, which give amazingly good support. These coils also separate the motion between two people sharing the mattress, so if one is a restless sleeper, the other won’t feel the movement as much during the night. And the Mazatlan Beautysleep mattress provides very firm support, which is great for back support. Also…since this mattress is one of the best prices you’ll find on something of this quality, with a Twin starting at $379, the pricing for the Simmons Mazatlan mattress makes it perfect for a guest bed purchase.

Altona plush guest bedroom mattress
Altona is a more plush, and still affordable, option for your guest bedroom mattress.

Low price on the high-tech with memory foam, the Altona

If you plan on having lots of guests throughout the year, spending a little bit more on your mattress probably won’t hurt.  If you want to offer your guests a bed that has some of the latest advancements in mattress technology, but at a price that isn’t too sky high, definitely check out the Beautyrest Altona Plush Mattress. This mattress offers a medium sleep surface and has Beautyrest’s super pocketed coil springs.  What’s really exciting, though, is that the Altona has Transflexion Comfort Technology, so your guests will be comfortable the moment they hit the mattress. It also has Visco memory foam, which will support your guests’ spine and body through the night. One more bonus—this mattress never needs to be flipped.

It feels good to host friends and family in your home, and your guests will appreciate great sleep. These mattresses make sure your visitors have a comfortable, supportive surface without breaking your budget.
