Simmons Beautyrest Black Mariela Plush Mattress Review

This mattress review is broken up into two parts:

1.  A comfort review from a Sleep City sleep expert

2.  A detailed interior breakdown which will explain where each component is located in the mattress and what each component does for your body.

Firmness Feel & Support

Touching the top of the mattress the fabric is velvety soft and smooth. Sitting on the edge of the mattress it feels soft but not too soft. It’s not as soft as a pillow top mattress but not at hard as a firm or luxury firm mattress. Getting off the mattress the response time is quick. In about 3-4 seconds the foams go back to their original shape.

Laying on my back this mattress feels cloud like but not so much that you are being enveloped by the mattress. This mattress softly conforms to the curvatures of my body very well. I can feel the support and pressure relief in my shoulders and lower back.

On my side I get the same feelings of soft support and pressure relief. When I lay on my stomach my torso doesn’t sink down too much therefore it would be a fair choice for a stomach sleeper who likes a plush mattress.

Overall this mattress is a very comfortable plush mattress. This mattress sits in a medium range of softness that is a little more on the soft side. Although this mattress is soft, is has a firm supportive core. On our 10 point comfort scale (1 being the firmest and 10 being the softest) this mattress rates as a 6. I would suggest this mattress to all types of sleepers who enjoy a plush mattress that has a medium softness level.

Interior Breakdown of the Mariela Plush Mattress

The Simmons Beautyrest Black Mariela Plush mattress is most comparable to the Simmons Beautyrest Black Natasha Plush Pillow top. The only differences between the two is the Mariela Plush is not a pillow top mattress and the Mariela Plush has 1 ½” inch less AirCool Gel Memory Foam.

Top Layer of Mattress – Modal yarn

Starting with the top of the mattress is the velvet soft Beautyrest Black mattress fabric made of modal yarn. Modal yarn is a natural fiber often used in towels and lingerie because, of its softness, durability and moisture wicking properties. For additional temperature control this fabric is dipped in a phase change material to keep you cool and comfortable during the night.

SurfaceCool Plus Fiber

Next is the SurfaceCool Plus Fiber. The SurfaceCool Plus fiber is made from Tencel, a natural fiber that is derived from wood pulp. This fiber is designed to dissipate body heat so you can sleep comfortably thru the night. For maximum breathability, these fibers are vertically oriented as opposed to horizontally so, air can freely move through the surface of the mattress.

Comfort Foam

After the SurfaceCool Plus Fiber is 2 ¼” of Comfort Foam. Comfort Foam provides extra comfort and support. Like all Simmons foams it is CertiPUR- US approved.

AirCool Memory Foam

The next foam layer is 1 ½” of AirCool Memory Foam. This unique foam features an open cell structure which helps dissipate heat away from the surface of the mattress and increases airflow so you can sleep well without overheating. This innovative foam also has an incredibly plush feeling, responds quickly to your body, and provides proper pressure relief and ease of movement. Because this foam is so responsive, it returns to its original shape in seconds which makes it easy to change sleeping positions without sinking into the mattress.

BlackICE Memory Foam

Beneath the AirCool Memory Foam is 1″ of the BlackICE Memory Foam. This foam as well as the Micro Diamond Memory Foam, uses the conductive properties of real diamond particles to absorb heat away from the body, contributing to the temperature control this mattress provides. A queen size mattress has over 250 carats of real diamond particles. Essentially this foam is an updated version of the Micro Diamond Memory Foam with added gel phase change treatment at the surface, making this the coolest foam innovation Simmons has to offer. If you get a chance to touch this foam at a Simmons retailer, it is noticeably cool to the touch.

Comfort Response Latex

Above the pocketed coil layer is ½” of Comfort Response Latex. This material features a consistent cell structure throughout the layer making it resilient and durable. Comfort Response Latex is pinhole ventilated to promote air flow, and conform and contour your body for maximum pressure relief and comfort.  If you have a latex allergy, do not fear. The latex layer is located so deep in the mattress that your skin will not be in touch with the material. Also Latex foam is known for being anti dust-mite.

Advanced Pocketed Coil Layer

The last layer in this mattress are the Advanced Pocketed Coils. The Advanced Pocketed Coils are exclusively used in the Beautyrest Black line, making this line the most comfortable and durable. These coils are designed to conform to every curve of your body as well as provide outstanding motion separation so you don’t disturb your partner when you move in the night. What makes these coils different then the original Beautyrest Pocketed coils is that these high carbon steel coils are triple wrapped creating a stronger coil. Then they are pre-compressed, and individually wrapped in durable, yet soft non-allergenic fabric like the original Beautyrest Pocketed coils.

AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement

Encompassing the entire mattress is the AirCool Beautyedge Foam encasement. This pin hole ventilated foam promotes airflow throughout the mattress and provides some additional support on the edge of the mattress, preventing you from rolling or sliding out of bed.

This mattress is adjustable base friendly as well.
