Firmness Feel & Support

The top of the mattress looks and feels luxuriously soft. The design on the fabric is very ascetically pleasing as well. Sitting on the edge of the mattress my first thoughts are that it feels firm yet soft and supportive. It has an in-between firmness that is not too soft and not too hard. I don’t sink down very much and I’m not sliding off the edge due to the edge support. When I get off the mattress I notice that the response time is quick. In about 3-4 seconds the foams go back to their original shape. The quick response time means that this mattress has good motion separation so, it will be easy to move around during the night and if you sleep with someone they wont notice your movement.

Laying on my back it feels comfortably firm but not too hard. This mattress doesn’t envelop my body like a plush mattress would but it does contour the curvatures of my body very well. There are no gaps in between my body and the mattress. My body’s spinal alignment is very even so this would be a great choice for a back sleeper who likes a medium firm mattress.

Switching to laying on my side, again it feels firm yet soft and supportive. Not too firm. For a side sleeper I would suggest a soft fluffy pillow or a side sleeper pillow to keep your body in even alignment. Laying on my stomach my torso doesn’t sink very much so this would also be a good choice for a stomach sleeper as well.

Overall this is a very comfortable firm mattress that isn’t too hard. On our 10-point comfort scale ( 1 being the firmest and 10 being the softest) this mattress rates as a 3. This mattress would be a great choice for all types of sleepers.

Interior Breakdown of the Mariela Luxury Firm Mattress

The Simmons Beautyrest Black Mariela Luxury Firm mattress is most comparable to the Simmons Beautyrest Black Natasha Luxury Firm Pillow top. The only difference between the two is the Mariela luxury firm is not a pillow top mattress and the Mariela luxury firm has a 1 ½” inch less Dynamic Response Memory Foam.

Top Layer of Mattress – Modal yarn

Starting from the top of the mattress is the Beautyrest Black mattress fabric is made of modal yarn. You’ll often find this material used in towels and lingerie because it is soft, durable, and has moisture-wicking properties. To finish the fabric, it is dipped in a phase change material designed to keep you at an ideal sleeping temperature.

SurfaceCool Plus Fiber

Underneath the Modal yarn layer is the SurfaceCool Plus Fiber which is also designed to keep you cool and comfortable. You’ll notice that all the materials used in these mattresses work together to keep you cool and comfortable during the night. The SufaceCool Plush fibers are made of Tencel fibers and are vertically oriented for maximum breathability. Tencel is a natural fiber that is derived from wood pulp, and is designed to dissipate body heat so you can sleep comfortably thru the night. Comfort Foam

Comfort foam adds an extra layer of firm yet soft cushioning support to this mattress.

Dynamic Response Memory Foam

The next layer is 1 ½” of Dynamic Response Memory Foam. This foam is often used in Simmons firmer models. Because this Simmons exclusive foam is molded pour foam instead of continuous pour foam, it creates comfortable firm feeling. This foam provides this mattress with conforming back support and pressure relief. Along with its supportive properties, this foam is also ventilated for proper airflow throughout the mattress.

BlackICE Memory Foam

After the Dynamic Response Memory Foam is Simmons newest foam innovation, the BlackICE Memory Foam. There is 1” of this foam in this mattress. This foam is essentially an updated version of the Micro Diamond memory foam with added gel phase change treatment at the surface which is cool to the touch. This foam as well as the Micro Diamond Memory Foam, uses the conductive properties of real diamond particles. Both the gel phase change treatment and the use of diamond technology work together to draw heat away from the surface of the mattress, store it, and dissipate it so, you can sleep without overheating.

Comfort Response Latex

The last foam layer in this mattress is a ½” of Comfort Response Latex. This pinhole ventilated Latex foam  is designed to conform and contour your body for maximum pressure relief and promote airflow. This material is incredibly durable and resilient due to it consistent cell structure. For people who have a latex allergy, don’t worry. This layer sits so deep in the mattress that your skin will not be in touch with the material. Latex is also known for being anti dust mite.

Advanced Pocketed Coil Layer

Last but not least is the core of the mattress, the Advanced Pocketed Coil layer. The pocketed coil was first invented by Simmons in 1925 and has since been improved and innovated for better conformability, durability, and motion separation. You wont find coils like these in any other Simmons mattress line. The difference between these coils and coils in the other Beautyrest lines is that these high carbon steel coils are triple strand wrapped creating a stronger coil. Otherwise they are pre-compressed, and individually wrapped in durable, yet soft non-allergenic fabric like all other Beautyrest coils. Remember those Beautyrest commercials where they dropped a bowling ball on a mattress with bowling pins set up at the end of the bed, and the pins didn’t move? This is a perfect representation of how these coils work. These coils are designed to perfectly conform to your body so, that when you change sleeping positions you don’t disturb your partner.

AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement

Surrounding the entire outside of the mattress is the AirCool Beautyedge Foam. This foam is pin hole ventilated to promote proper airflow throughout the mattress. The purpose of this encasement is to provide extra support and prevent you from rolling or sliding out of bed.

This mattress is adjustable base friendly as well.
