Firmness Feel & Support

Sitting down on this mattress it feels very soft. I sink down to the edge support but I’m not sliding off the edge or falling backward so, it is still supportive.

laying down on my back the response time is a little slow but, in less then a minute this mattress softly conforms to my body well. This mattress has an overall soft enveloping feel with a firm supportive core. I feel good pressure relief in my hips and shoulders. I sink a little bit more in my hips but, that is normal with a plush mattress.

On my side, I get the same feelings as I do on my back. It conforms well to the curvatures of my body and I feel good pressure relief in my hips and shoulders. My body alignment is fairly even and there are barely any gaps between my body and the mattress.

laying on my stomach, my stomach sinks and my body alignment is not even. I would suggest a firmer mattress for a stomach sleeper.

Overall this mattress has a very comfortable, soft, enveloping feel. On our 10 point comfort scale (1 being the firmest and 10 being the softest) we have this rated as a 7. If you are a side or back sleeper who likes a soft mattress this would be a good choice for you.

Top Layer of Mattress – Modal yarn

Starting from the top of the mattress is the luxurious Beautyrest Black mattress fabric made of white modal yarn. This soft,durable, natural material is often found in lingerie and towels due to its natural moisture wicking properties. To add to the temperature regulating benefits of this mattress, the fabric is dipped in a phase change material designed to keep you cool and comfortable during the night.

SurfaceCool Plus Fiber

After the Modal yarn is the SufaceCool Plus Fiber. This fiber also works to keep you cool and comfortable. SufaceCool Plus Fiber is made of Tencel fibers and are vertically oriented for maximum breathability. Tencel is a natural fiber that is derived from wood pulp, and is designed to dissipate body heat so you can maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature throughout this night.

Comfort Foam

2 1/4″ of Comfort Foam adds an extra layer of firm yet soft cushioning support to this mattress.

AirCool Memory Foam

The next layer is 2” of AirCool Memory Foam. This is where this mattress gets it plush feeling. This foam is often used in Simmons Beautyrest’s plush mattresses. AirCool Memory Foam features an open cell structure which helps dissipate heat and regulate your ideal sleeping temperature. This innovative foam conforms to you body very well and provides proper pressure relief and ease of movement.

Comfort Foam

After The the AirCool Memory Foam is another 1″ of comfort foam.

Micro Diamond Memory Foam

Then there is 1/2″ of Micro Diamond Memory Foam. This foam utilizes the conductive properties of real diamond particles to move heat away from the body helping you sleep comfortably through the night. The thermal conductivity of diamonds is often used in electronic devices to prevent them from overheating. 250 carats of diamond particles can be found in a queen size mattress.

Advanced Pocketed Coil Layer

The last layer of this mattress is the Advanced Pocketed Coil layer, the core of the mattress. The pocketed coil was first invented by Simmons in 1925 and has since been improved and innovated for better conformability, durability, and motion separation than any other coil. You wont find this coil in the other Simmons mattress lines. The Beautyrest Black line is Simmons most luxurious line so they use their most luxurious coil. The difference between these coils and coils in the other Beautyrest lines is that these high carbon steel coils are triple strand wrapped creating a stronger coil. Otherwise they are pre-compressed, and individually wrapped in durable, yet soft non-allergenic fabric like all other Beautyrest coils. Remember those Beautyrest commercials where they dropped a bowling ball on a mattress with bowling pins set up at the end of the bed, and the pins didn’t move? This is a perfect representation of how these coils work. These coils are designed to perfectly conform to your body so, that when you change sleeping positions you don’t disturb your partner.

Coil Gauge

Note that this mattress and the Simmons Beautyrest Black Katarina Luxury Firm Pillowtop mattress interiors are the same except for the coil gauge. The Simmons Beautyrest Black Katarina Plush Pillowtop mattress has a higher gauge of 17 which creates a thinner more forgiving coil. The Katarina luxury firm pillowtop mattress has a lower gauge of 16 which creates a thicker, firmer coil.

AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement

Surrounding the entire exterior of the mattress is the ventilated AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement. This pin hole ventilated foam promotes airflow throughout the mattress and offers additional edge support, preventing you from rolling or sliding out of bed.

This mattress is adjustable base friendly as well.
