Firmness Feel & Support

Feeling the top of the mattress it is luxuriously soft and has a beautiful design. Sitting on the edge of this mattress it feels sturdy yet comfortable. It’s not too firm and not too soft.

Laying on my back it feels comfortably firm but not too hard. My body alignment is very even. I feel good supportive pressure relief in my shoulders and especially my lower back. This would be a good option for a back sleeper who likes a medium firm feeling mattress.

On my side it does feel a little too firm for a side sleeper. My head tilts down and there is a gap between my mid section and the mattress. If you are a side sleeper and you know you like a firm mattress this would be a fairly good choice. For most side sleepers I would suggest a softer mattress.

On my stomach I notice that my body alignment is even like it was on my back so, this would also be a good choice for a stomach sleeper.

Overall this is a comfortably firm mattress. It has a medium firm feel that is not too hard and not too soft. On our 10 point comfort scale (1 being the firmest and 10 being the softest) we have this rated as a 3. I would suggest this mattress to back and stomach sleepers who like a firm mattress that isn’t rock hard. For side sleepers I would only suggest if you know you like a firmer mattress.

Top Layer of Mattress – Modal yarn

The fabric on top of the mattress, unique to the Beautyrest Black line, is made of luxuriously soft white modal yarn and has an intricate design. Modal yarn is a naturally soft, durable fabric often used to make towels and lingerie for its natural moisture wicking properties. This fabric is dipped in a phase change material for added temperature regulation so, you can sleep comfortably during the night without over heating.

SurfaceCool Plus Fiber

The second layer in the mattress is the SurfaceCool Plus Fiber. This layer is also designed to help with temperature regulation. These fibers are made of Tencel and are vertically oriented to maximize air flow. Tencel is a natural fiber that is derived from wood pulp, and is designed to dissipate body heat so you can sleep cool and comfortable thru the night.

Comfort Foam

Next is a 2 ¼” layer of Comfort Foam which is often used in firm mattresses. This foam adds firm yet soft cushioning support to this mattress.

After the comfort foam is another 1″ of comfort foam.

Micro Diamond Memory Foam 

The final layer of foam in this mattress is ½” of Micro Diamond Memory Foam. This foam utilizes the conductive properties of real diamond particles to move heat away from the body helping you maintain an ideal sleeping temperature during the night. The thermal conductivity of diamonds is often used in electronics devices to prevent them from overheating.  About 250 carats of diamond particles can be found in a queen size mattress.

Advanced Pocketed Coil Layer

Last but not least is the Advanced Pocketed Coil layer, the core of the mattress. The pocketed coil was first invented by Simmons in 1925 and has since been improved and innovated for better conformability, durability, and motion separation than any other coil. Remember those Beautyrest commercials where they dropped a bowling ball on a mattress with bowling pins set up at the end of the bed, and the pins didn’t move? This is a perfect representation of how these coils work. These coils are designed to perfectly conform to your body so, that when you change sleeping positions you don’t disturb your partner. You won’t find these coils in any other Beautyrest line. The Beautyrest Black line is Simmons most luxurious line so they use their most luxurious coil. The difference between these coils and coils in the other Beautyrest lines is that these high carbon steel coils are triple strand wrapped creating a stronger coil. Otherwise they are pre-compressed, and individually wrapped in durable, yet soft non-allergenic fabric like all other Beautyrest coils.

AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement

Encompassing the entire mattress is an AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement. This foam is pinhole ventilated for air flow and provides additional support on the edge of the mattress, preventing you from rolling or sliding out of bed.

This mattress is adjustable base friendly as well.
