Firmness Feel & Support

The top of the mattress has a velvety soft white top with an intricate luxurious design. Sitting on the edge of the mattress I sink in a little and it feels very soft yet comfortably firm. I can also feel the edge support foam encasement doing its job keeping me from sliding off the bed.

Laying on my back the response time is quick and I initially sink in a little but not too much. After settling into the mattress It feels very soft with a nice firm supportive core. I can tell this would be comfortable for a back sleeper because my body alignment is even and I feel good pressure relief in my shoulders and lower back.

On my side this feels perfect for a side sleeper. My body alignment is mostly even. My head sinks down a little but that can be remedied with the right pillow. This mattress is a great combination of soft and firm. Again I can feel good pressure relief in my shoulders and torso.

On my stomach my mid section doesn’t sink very much so this would be a good option for a stomach sleeper as well.

Overall this mattress has a very comfortable medium soft feel with a supportive core. I would recommend this to all types of sleepers who like a medium comfort mattress. On our 10 point comfort scale (1 being the firmest 10 being the softest) we have this mattress rated as a 5 so it is a perfect combination of firm and soft. This mattress would be good for people who have back problems as well. When you have back and shoulder pain you want a mattress that is soft enough to be comfortable yet firm enough to support your body well.

Interior Breakdown of the Desiree Plush Mattress

Top Layer of Mattress – Modal yarn

Starting with the top of the mattress the fabric, unique to the Beautyrest Black line,  is made of luxuriously soft white modal yarn. Modal yarn is a durable, naturally soft material often found in towels and lingerie due to its natural moisture wicking properties. For added temperature regulating benefits, this fabric is dipped in a phase change material which is designed to keep you cool and comfortable during the night.

SurfaceCool Plus Fiber

The second layer of the mattress is the SurfaceCool Plus Fiber. This fiber is also designed to keep you cool and comfortable. These fibers are made of Tencel fibers and are vertically oriented for maximum breathability. Tencel is a natural fiber that is derived from wood pulp, and is designed to dissipate body heat so you can sleep comfortably without overheating during the night.

Comfort Foam

A 2 ¼” layer of Comfort Foam adds firm yet soft cushioning support to this mattress.

Gel Touch Memory Foam

After the comfort foam is 1″ of Gel Touch Memory Foam. This soft gel foam has great conforming and contouring properties. Often used in plush mattresses, this foam uniquely conforms and contours the curvatures of your body providing soothing comfort and support.

Micro Diamond Memory Foam 

The last layer of foam in this mattress is ½” of Micro Diamond Memory Foam. This foam utilizes the conductive properties of real diamond particles to move heat away from the body helping you maintain an ideal sleeping temperature throughout the night. The thermal conductivity of diamonds is often used in electronics devices to prevent them from overheating.  About 250 carats of diamond particles can be found in a queen size mattress.

Advanced Pocketed Coil Layer

The final layer is the Advanced Pocketed Coil Layer. The core of the mattress. The pocketed coil was first invented by Simmons in 1925 and has since been improved and innovated for better conformability, durability, and motion separation than any other coil. These coils are designed to perfectly conform to your body so, that when you change sleeping positions you don’t disturb your partner. You wont find this coil in any other Simmons mattress line. The Beautyrest Black line is Simmons most luxurious line so they use their most luxurious coil. The difference between these coils and coils in the other Beautyrest lines is that these high carbon steel coils are triple strand wrapped creating a stronger more durable coil. Otherwise they are pre-compressed, and individually wrapped in durable, yet soft non-allergenic fabric like all other Beautyrest coils. Remember those Beautyrest commercials where they dropped a bowling ball on a mattress with bowling pins set up at the end of the bed, and the pins didn’t move? This is a perfect representation of how these coils work.

AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement

Encompassing the entire mattress is an AirCool Beautyedge Foam Encasement. This foam provides additional support on the edge of the mattress, preventing you from rolling or sliding out of bed. This foam is also pin hole ventilated to promote airflow throughout the mattress.

This mattress is adjustable base friendly as well.
